Longfield house and Cill a' Rubha are holiday cottages available throughout the year for lettings on the Isle of Colonsay. Approximately 60km from Oban on the west coast of Scotland, Colonsay is a magical island with wonderful beaches and scenery; wild flowers, birds, woodland, ancient ruins and very friendly people.
Located on the west side of Colonsay facing the bay of Port Mór and the open Atlantic, Longfield house is an excellent property for families and multi-generational holidays. With outstanding seaviews and amazing sunsets, it also affords remarkable opportunities for the natural historian.
Port Mór is one of the most reliable otter haunts in the island; with average strength binoculars one can easily view their activities from the sitting room windows. It is very convenient for walks to the sea-cliffs (which host the largest seabird breeding colony in the southern Hebrides), for the Golf Course, for trout fishing in Loch Fada and for walks to the Grey Atlantic Seal colonies in Ardskenish.
You can view the property and surroundings on Google maps by clicking here.
Located on the north side of Colonsay on the raised marine platform of Uragaig, Cill a' Rubha has a wrap around verandah so visitors can fully appreciate the breathtaking scenery and provides a choice of shade or sunbathing throughout daylight hours.
The cottage faces directly across to the ancient chapel-site of Cill a' Rubha (pron: "kil-a-roo"), a sixth-century foundation by St. Maelrubh, looking towards Sgibinis and Balnahard. The panoramic views encompass the whole of Kiloran Bay, the Ross of Mull, the Torran Rocks and distant Dubh Hirteach lighthouse.
Bedlinen and towels are provided for your stay in both properties. We love animals and dogs are welcome, but we request that you don't allow your animals on the furniture and any hair is removed prior to departure. Both our properties are no smoking. Please feel free to browse the site to get a better impression of our properties and location. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
Colonsay has some of the best scenery in Scotland, consisting of beautiful, unspoiled beaches and luscious sea views that are sure to take your breath away.
Renowned for its diverse range of flora and fauna, Colonsay is a particularly excellent destination for birdwatchers. Native birds include black-legged kittiwakes, cormorants, guillemots, corncrakes, choughs and golden eagles.
Tourist events are organised throughout the year including folk music, spring, rugby, book and food festivals. Colonsay hotel regularly holds quiz and music nights, and a ceilidh is held every Saturday night in the village hall during the summer months.
With an independently awarded four star rating (excellent) from the Scottish tourist board for both our properties, you can be assured our accommodation is of the highest standard.
This is my last full day on Colonsay and as I have had quite a few action packed days I thought I would sit and watch the comings and goings around Cill a’ Rubha. This is such a special place with lovely neighbours; a big thank you to Walter who has been my guardian angel this week; his beautiful cats, comical ducks, geese and hens... (I have just been watching a pair of drumming snipe overhead – what a fantastic accompaniment to breakfast – one of Walter’s golden duck eggs!) Of all the places I have explored on Colonsay, this one corner around the community of Uragaig will forever hold a special place in my heart...
This has been our 5th visit to Colonsay and our 3rd stay in Cill a’ Rubha, we were really looking forward to returning to such a lovely house. It was just as great as we remembered. Thank you Christa and Kevin for providing such great accommodation, again we have had a fantastic holiday. The island has a unique feel all of its own. You can be as relaxed or as active as you please. We’ve done a bit of both....
25 years of coming to Colonsay but my first time at Longfield. Definitely one of the best – a wonderful time, thank you!! Now that the family is “extending” we are very happy that we can share what has been for us such a special place and that it hits the spot for everyone! We were all here including, this time, partners – and the house couldn’t be better!
Perfect holiday accommodation – quality, location, value for money, excellent heating system, every piece of equipment you could need, comprehensive information pack for both house and island, plus the phone numbers of Kevin and Christa in case of any difficulty. What more can one ask for?
